Short hair, long hair, no hair or just a single strand of hair: Turkish barbers are capable of giving men the haircut of their dreams.
In fact, for men who don’t wear a beard, the only hairstyle available at Istanbul’s best salons are hairstyles that look perfectly suitable to keep a bare head and, perhaps, just cut enough for some distance between shoulder blades.
Based on black, brown or beige mop styling, the hair — still managed with slicked back sides and slicked back ends — is gently shaped, while the neck and shoulders remain bare and more open than in an inch and a half of tight one or two style.
Of course, the real secret of Turkish barbers is how that hair is kept clean, as they only wash the bottom and top heads.
“This care is unrivalled by any other style of barbering,” writes Elen Ayhan Arakci. “The services we offer at the beauty market are not as advanced as the ones we offer in Istanbul’s barbershops,” says Ayhan Arakci.
