Bottega Veneta taps designer Tomas Maier as creative director

After 42 years, Bottega Veneta is undergoing a makeover. In January, designer Tomas Maier will take on the role of brand creative director. Prior to his new role, he’s been at Bottega Veneta for the past 14 years as creative director and creative director of the Maison’s Leather Goods.

Maier’s first collection for Bottega Veneta, presented on the runway during Paris Fashion Week in March, included a series of fluid leather leather accessories, bombers and shoulder bags and received praise for incorporating bold colors such as mint green, orange and burnt orange.

Though he’s been with the brand for nearly 30 years, Maier has held many other leadership roles with companies such as Lanvin, Maison Martin Margiela and Roberto Cavalli and won the prestigious Womenswear Designer of the Year Award at the CFDA when he was at Dior Homme.

“Bottega Veneta is not only my company, it is my universe,” Maier said in a statement. “I have found my soul mate in Bottega Veneta. I look forward to sharing Bottega Veneta’s magic with the world.”
