Endeavor Content, the company behind Emmy-winning shows “House of Cards” and “Mr. Robot,” has been acquired by WME | IMG, according to a statement by WME on Friday.
The company that did business as Endeavor, the talent agency, but has started doing business with Endeavor Content as a production arm is being sold to the company owned by William Morris Endeavor, one of the traditional agents involved in the movie and TV business. The merger will create a “global production, finance and distribution company,” the statement says.
Privately held WME | IMG has been looking to tap into the current boom in television programming and scripted content and the similarly dramatic rise in digital media and news media. Endeavor Content’s clients and expertise will be integral to achieving the latter goal and added visibility.
In 2016, Endeavor Media Group was merged with IMG, a sports and entertainment agency that went public last summer. Endeavor represented athletes and entertainers for more than a decade before it went into the movie business.
Endeavor Content’s talent roster includes Richard Linklater, Stephen King, Gillian Flynn, Robin Wright, Don Cheadle, James Franco, Jordan Peele, and the BFG. The company will continue to operate as a separate entity.
